Alibaba’s AI Smart Speaker to be Pre-installed into New Cars of Audi, Renault and Honda
June 19, 2019

Nikkei Asian Review reported on June 11 that Alibaba have entered partnerships separately with three automakers: Audi, Renault, and Honda, with an aim to diversify its business. Under the tie-up, these three automakers will pre-install Alibaba’s Tmall Genie-powered smart speakers into their new vehicles to tap the demand of the middle-class, tech-savvy consumers in China. Renault aims to launch its smart car co-developed with Alibaba this year at the earliest while the other two carmakers are still in talk with Alibaba for their smart cars. In addition, consumers can also remotely control their Tmall Genie-compatible smart devices at home when they are on the way home. Alibaba stated that it has shopped 10 million smart speakers thus far. Other than Audi, Renault, and Honda, other automakers such as BMW and Volvo have also adopted Alibaba’s AI auto solution launched last April to smarten up their cars.
